Night Sky Programs

As a certified Dark Sky Sanctuary, the National Park Service is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the pristine darkness that can only be found in a handful of special places. Join the National Park Service as it hosts a series of "Night Sky Programs" to explore the importance of the dark sky for plants, animals, and people and discuss how we can all be stewards of the stars. 9/2/23 @ 8pm Night Sky Program: Dark Skies, Bright Future

Join us at Lunksoos Picnic Area for an evening program about the night sky. Please note that campers have priority for parking spots and there are limited spots available. This program is strongly recommended for campers only due to rough road conditions and the difficulty of navigating roads at night. Please call 207-456-6001 for more information. Program may be canceled due to inclement weather.



9/9/23 @ 8pm Night Sky Program: Dark Skies, Bright Future

Join a ranger from Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument for an evening program under the stars. As a certified Dark Sky Sanctuary, we are dedicated to preserving and showcasing the pristine darkness that can only be found in a handful of special places. Our program will begin at 8:00pm. We will explore the importance of the dark sky for plants, animals, and people and how we can all be stewards of the stars. The program will end with stargazing and telescope viewings. Program will take place at: Taylor's Katahdin View Camps & Campground 38 Swift Brook Rd, Stacyville, Me 04777



9/29/23 @ 7pm Family Night at the Library

Join park rangers from Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument for an evening of presentations, children's activities, and telescope observations. Bring a camp chair or blanket and enjoy the starry night!

7pm Jr Ranger Program for Kids: Creatures of the Night

8pm Family Program: Dark Skies, Bright Future

Event will take place at the Lumbermen's Museum & Veterans’ Memorial Library in Patten, ME.
