UPDATE: The LUPC Staff have written a draft ruling denying Wolfden Rezoning to allow mining near Pickett Mountain Pond!!
The LUPC Commissioners will be meeting on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024 @ 10am at Jeff's Catering in Brewer (15 Littlefield Rd)
to consider finalizing the draft decision.  Come join the party and help make this Valentine's Day special!!  Show up to show love to the LUPC Staff and to the natural beauty and traditional livelihoods of the Northwoods that the Commission's decision will affect so drastically.
---------------------------------------------------------
We are pleased to report that both Public Hearings in Millinocket had more comments opposed to the mine (and re-zoning) than for the mine!!  And in Bangor more than 50 people--many representing large constituencies--spoke in opposition to the mine proposal while only 6 spoke in favor!  Thank you so much for coming out and making your voices heard!!!

Wolfden Resources is trying to extract more than 4 million pounds of bedrock adjacent to our precious Pickett Mountain Pond and below the wetlands and streams that surround it!  Please let the LUPC know that we are unwilling to allow this region to become a sacrifice zone for corporate profits!  Polymetallic Sulphide mining is intrinsically toxic, causing surface and ground waters to become acidic, and contaminating them with arsenic, mercury, lead, and cyanide.

Wolfden plans on withdrawing hundreds of thousands of gallons of water everyday from the aquifer, exposing it to toxins, "treating it", and then spraying it over the forest.  They make big promises, but their board of directors, and primary investors, have a demonstrable history of economic success at the cost of social degradation and environmental destruction.

Please browse this website and factsheet to learn talking points, read other people's comments to the LUPC below, and do your own research!  We're sure you'll come to the same conclusion that we have. And once you have grasped what's at stake, share this information with your friends, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, and your religious communities! This is too important of an issue to trust to the bankers and bureaucrats!
